Misophonia Triumph: From Overload to Family Time
“Our kids could not be near each other without World War III breaking out. My oldest daughter, who was 13 years old suffered from Misophonia for years. I knew how she felt because I too had dealt with low grade noise sensitivities for a long time. For her it was so much worse. She had to wear noise cancelling headphones most of the time when she was at home and she could not eat dinner or hang out with us, ever. A huge problem was that we could not travel in the car together without massive fights erupting. We worked with the doctors at Leigh Brain and Spine and honestly I did not know what to expect. I wasn’t sure it would help us. After our daughter’s brain map I could see how her brain was working to create the noise sensitivity.
Dr. Leigh suggested that our son behaviors (the ones that were triggering my daughter) might be due to how his brain was functioning. His qEEG Brain Map showed a significant ADHD pattern. It was so interesting and informative. The two kids began Neurofeedback Therapy and 6 months later we were in the car on our way to visit my parents 7 hours away. Truly remarkable. What I liked the best was seeing the graphs of change in the brain patterns. The changes coincided with the changes I saw in the kids’ behaviors. It was really cool.”

-Jim’s Story…
How does ADHD affect Kids in School?
Jim (not his real name to protect his privacy) had been struggling with ADHD and Anxiety for a long time. He was never diagnosed with ADHD as child, but it was always difficult for him to follow directions in the classroom and stay on track with the rest of the class. As he got older things got worse. As each day went on at school, he could feel himself get exhausted and frustrated. Never mind having to do homework when he got home. He just couldn’t keep up.
Then Jim graduated from high school after a great deal of struggle. Accordingly, he squeaked his way through college in a similar fashion. He was waiting for his difficulties to go away but they kept getting worse. What he noticed the most was that he felt more stressed out than ever and was developing anxiety all the time.
How Do ADHD and Anxiety Go Together?
Jim didn’t know what I know, this is a classic way that ADHD develops for many people into adulthood. That is if they don’t take care of the underlying brain pattern that is causing it. ADHD is the use of too much slow brain speed. If you use this pattern across days, months, and years your brain will self-compensate for the slowness and start using too much extra fast brain speed to keep up. It is like if you were using the brake while you were driving, you would have to push the gas pedal harder to move and go anywhere. Unfortunately, this trashes the engine. Jim had a qEEG Brain Map performed and it was easy to see he was using the ADHD pattern.
This is exactly what is happening in the brain. But, back to Jim.
How Does ADHD Affect Adults in their Jobs?
How Does Neurofeedback Help ADHD & Anxiety?
Jim started with Neurofeedback and began to feel more relaxed at work and at home. He felt noticeably better after his sessions and the feeling began to stick around as he had more and more sessions. He was better able to organize his days to get his work done before he left to go home. This helped to bring his stress down. Jim was really excited about the changes he was feeling and he decided to add Home Neurofeedback into his routine. What Home Neurofeedback allowed him to do was to have a tool to rewire his brain himself on the days he was not coming into the office. This helped him feel and perform better even faster than he was already.
How Do you Know ADHD & Anxiety are Better?
Jim felt it. He felt calmer, more organized, less stressed, and had significantly reduced anxiety. He felt more like the person he always imagined he should be.
The Drs. Leigh could see on Jim’s graphs from his sessions that his brain was indeed changing and getting stronger. What this looked like was a reduction in the slow brain speed, a decrease in the extra fast brain speed, and an increase in the speed that creates calm-focus. The Drs. Leigh could see Jim’s pattern changing over time and then they could see it stabilize. Essentially, his brain was now stuck in the better brain pattern that creates calm-focus and every time he uses calm-focus, the new better pattern hardwires itself in even more. That is how neuroplasticity works.
Jim is now an anonymous champion of Neurofeedback Therapy. Anonymous because his employer never knew he had the challenges that he did, and he never wants them to know since they are now gone.

“I wanted to let you know that Marco did fabulously well at Nina’s birthday party last Saturday. It was at BounceU (lots of giant bouncy houses, stimulation, etc.) and there were 20 kids ranging in age from 4-6 (a few babies and 8 yr. olds, too). He didn’t play specifically with anyone for long, but he interacted and did not have any conflicts or times when he was out of control. I did not police him once during the bouncing. In the party/food room afterwards he sat at the table the whole time and ate and was in control of himself the entire time. Then we came home and he watched Nina open all of her gifts without getting upset that there weren’t any for him. I had him read her cards out loud to her and tell me who the gifts were from. Then he sat and built a Lego set for several hours until bed. A very impressive day!”

According to Tony Robbins, whose testimonial is featured prominently on a prominent Neurofeedback site, Biocybernaut, the training “enhanced my ability to multitask, and as a creative professional, I now have the ability to visualize two separate tasks simultaneously. Soccer Players
The Italian football team that won the 2004 World Cup final in Germany against France succeeded through training their brains with Neurofeedback. To prepare for the tournament some of the Italian footballers used neurofeedback techniques to train focus, concentration and ‘getting into the zone’.
Hockey Teams
The Vancouver Canucks used Neurofeedback training to get into the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in 20 years in 2011. The Canucks reported that the brain training helped their “older players play better more consistently and all players learned to control their stress, attention, and focus in competitive situations much better”.
NFL
Corey Liuget, the Los Angeles Charger defensive super star, has become a poster player for Neurofeedback. You can watch many videos of him chronicling his positive experience with Neurofeedback to improve his focus, concentration, and decrease his performance stress. He says it is pivotal part of his training and has improved his life. Corey says “It is Neurofeedback all the way, get the mental edge.”
NBA
Chris Kaman, Los Angeles Clippers superstar, talks in an L.A. Times article, about his ADHD misdiagnose as a child. How did he know he was misdiagnosed? He had a Brain map and worked with a Neurofeedback doctor. He used Neurofeedback to help improve his focus and decrease his stress and went on to “Growing up, I had to take the medication my whole life,” said Kaman, who said he grew so frustrated taking the medication that he would come home from school and cry. “I can’t take back time. I wish I could. But I can’t. It really bothered me to take the medication every day. I felt I had to take the medication to make me feel like a regular person. It was kind of backward.”
